Roland Herrera
Artist at Work Page

Background

Roland started painting at an early age in Preparatory School, and developed strongly at Stowe School, with prolific output. He credits English Sculptor William Dady as his sole teacher in all disciplines related to the visual arts. Painting was largely put on hold while Roland became a Professional Violinist with a busy International Performing career. He now teaches Violin privately at his home in Bristol, but has recently resumed painting again. Roland is exploring the medium of Watercolour for the first time, while completing a massive English countryside Mural in Acrylics.

Watercolours

A gallery of my recent work. Unfortunately I sold some watercolours 2 years ago before I even got the chance to photograph them. I work in soft pastel, watercolour, oil and sometimes acrylic if I do a mural at home, for example. I like a style which is bold. Even in a simple sketch, composition must be of strong character, and if I am not happy with a picture I usually destroy it, in order to render the picture unusable. I will not have friends or family rescue such work, because viewing a weak picture bothers me. This does waste some material and time, but it ensures only the best works survive.
