Won
a music scholarship to Stowe School, then continued violin studies at The Purcell School, The
Conservatorio di
Piacenza, Italy and in St. Petersburg, Russia.
Studied full time with the following eminent violinists :
David
Stone, Manoug Parikian, Suzanne Rosza,
Paolo Borciani (leader
of The Quartetto Italiano),
and Stojan Kaltchev (International Prize Winner and eminent pupil
of Michail Vaiman in St Petersburg and David Oistrakh in Russia).
Also, attended Master-classes with
Emannuel Hurwitz and Alexei Mikhlin
(pupil of David Oistrakh and winner of The Queen Elizabeth Competition).
Has a Performers'
Diploma in Violin Playing, Theory and Solfège and qualifications in Piano
Playing.
Performing
At an early age, sang as Soprano Soloist in
the choir of Rose Hill Preparatory School.
Played in the IAPS Orchestra conducted by John Lubbock at The Maltings, Snape.
Toured Italy and France as leader of the "Quartetto
Accademia Ambrosiana".
Performed with Milan Conservatory staff and "La Scala" orchestra members playing in prestigious theatres in Milan.
Played
with the Milan Radio Orchestra (RAI), and toured Switzerland as Soloist with a
String Chamber Orchestra based in Lugano.
Gave many recitals with Pianist
Svetlana Tchernova (teacher at the Moscow Conservatory).
Played and Married the Cellist Simonetta
Barone
Teaching
Taught and Lectured at the following music schools in Northern Italy : The "Roberto
Goitre", The "CDP Musica", The Conservatorio di Bergamo and The
"Accademia Musicale Lombarda".
Also ran Summer Violin Master classes in Trabuchello for three consecutive years. In 1997 moved to England and joined the
European String Teachers Association (ESTA) and the Incorporated Society of
Musicians (ISM.).
Briefly worked for the Berkshire Young Musicians Trust and
attended examiner training at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama.
Held
workshops and taught at The Gloucester Academy of Music & Performing Arts (GAMPA)
also acting as violin tutor at the Junior ESTA. International String
Course held in Brussels in 1997.
Has appeared on the BBC News in connection with a
"Young Strings Project" in North Somerset. His students
were later invited to demonstrate on a national forum day at an ESTA conference in
London.
Taught at one of eight main Professional Music Conservatoires in the UK: The Royal Welsh College of Music
& Drama for 6 years (RWCMD) on Saturdays. Taught both Senior and
Junior departments.
Now teaches around 40 pupils
privately from
home in Bristol, and "supports" students and players
worldwide through the "Westbury Park Strings"
website.
