Mazas Book 1 number 09Introduction An important study in which a rock solid rhythm is indispensable when used in conjunction with the dotted bowing pattern. The marking risoluto as well as Marche clearly spells this rhythmic discipline out. It is not clear whether we are to use the same bowing throughout the study as the one suggested in the first crotchet, or change the bowing to separate bows ; with the semiquaver being played as a very fast and small down bow. If we use the two bowing patterns, we must of course aim for the same dotted sound and figure in each of the bowing strokes. When played accurately, a listener should not be able to tell if the bow was actually going up or down : The dotted rhythm should prevail and be played in a refined way and with good taste (not too angular). |
