Mazas Book 1 number 4Introduction This is a détaché study which concentrates on triplets, and therefore the accents required to play triplets effectively. Simply using twice the amount of bow for an accented note will project that note clearly so that it stands out the way it should. Note that the accents alternate on a down bow and then an up bow. The same impulse in the right hand which creates these accents (>) are also used in the sforzandi (fz). Vibrato can be used to add brilliance to the accents on the fourth beat of the bar. There is some useful writing here to develop the left hand, especially with passages in the fifth position (such as the last line ). |
