A clip of Wohlfahrt Op.45 n.4

F.A.Q.

What is it ? : It's a .wmv windows media file (of low resolution) of a Chinese girl playing study n.4. About a 1.2MB download.

Is it played well ? : Yes, I quite like it. It's fairly close to the Russian school technique I talk about in my site ; even, clear tone. Could be further enhanced with more imagination and nuance, but the basics are solid.

Could she play nearer the middle ? Now don't be fussy... you've been reading too many notes and taking things too literally.. Notice the bow distribution is spot on.

What's the source ? : It comes off a Video CD one of my students bought in China. They have lessons and play through all 60 of Wohlfahrt's Op.45.

Wow, do they do other studies too ? : Yes, Mazas and Kaysar, maybe Kreutzer. You have to speak Chinese to understand the lessons... no subtitles !

How come we don't have any such products in the west ? Well, maybe because it's not a video game... or no one's got round to doing it yet.. plus kids like glossy books with pictures... nobody wants to study Wohlfahrt ( except me ) !

Can I see a clearer version ? Well if you ask nicely, I'll see what I can do... especially if you have a video game to swap. (Joke?). If web readers request I can put something slightly clearer up too - but it's going to be a big file !

Can we see the whole lot ? : Sorry the files would take up too much space, and I would be infringing copyright laws probably. I'd try and seek out the VCD's in China. They're cheap and good. Maybe someone can provide a link.
