Right at Sight Grade 3

Right@Sight Cello Grade 3 is a good sight reading book; highly recommended.
This book is full of varied rhythms and fingering patterns.
Published by Peters, it's written by a friend and colleague of ours, Caroline Lumsden.

Exercises 38-41 present good material for some advancing patterns in fingering. All necessary because of those beloved key signatures, with their flats and sharps !
Your task is to finger this using the symbols 1 2 3 4 C G D A bk ex.

numbers 38-41 of right at sight - get the music now !

Above : Can you finger this music ? Print it out and try ! Finger these using 1 2 3 4 th fingers, and the open strings, C G D A, but also write in the extensions (write bk for a backward extension and ex for a forward extension.) In the music, the last note of the 3rd bar of number 38 is marked x1 which we have marked as bk. There is no standard notation for such fingering, as it is the job of every good cellist and sight reader to know these extensions and patterns for yourself ! The solutions can be downloaded here 38 39 40 41. You can also download a full sized page of studies 38-41.
