Venue & Dates:

bulletMain Event : Saturday 30th (registration from 12 noon - 13:00 hrs) and Sunday (from 10 am.), August 30th and 31st, 2008 i.e. The last weekend of August
bulletThursday night 28th : Players welcome to join in the local Bristol backgammon scene at the BCSC
(It's a League night but Chouettes or 8 Player Jackpots usually possible)
bulletWarm up Friday 29th at main venue starting from 6pm : Satellites did take place at this time. 18 Players registered at this time ; Poker played until 1am.
bulletInformal Day After Tournament (subject to confirmation) at BCSC (Bristol County Sports Club) after 6pm on Monday 1st Sept.
bulletSatellites were also held for Intermediate & Championship Flights in Bristol on Thurs 7th August at the BCSC
bulletVenue is Artillery Grounds, (opposite BBC Studios map) Whiteladies Road, Clifton, Bristol (Parking for 20-25 cars)

Event Format:

bulletThe format and spirit of the tournament this year will closely follow the two preceding events;
Roland and Simonetta's Wedding Tournament, "The Bristol Wide Open 2005" and "The Bristol International Festival of Backgammon 2006"
bulletTwo flights will be formed on the day; Intermediate and Championship Flights. Basic Entry fee and Registration are compulsory. Optional side pools to boost prize money.

bulletChampionship Entry £170, Optional side pool £100, Registration £30
bulletProvisional Match lengths; (subject to number of players) Intermediate Flight 11 main / 7 cons, Championship Flight 15 main / 11 cons
bulletThere will be a variety of Side Events, run by Mike Main, like jackpots, Blitz Tournaments with Clocks, Stop pots (Stockpots)
bulletPoker on Saturday at 9pm will be organised by Mark Dixon (see poker details below)
bulletSatellite Tournaments were run in advance of the event: Winners were Gaz Owen, Steve Morris and Mikael Jensen.
bulletTrophies and prize money will be awarded (Winner / Runner-up of each flight, the consolation Winner / last chance winner)

 Rules:

We will follow the Danish Backgammon Federation DBgF Rules. Premature rolls are re-rolled if the opponent demands so

Clock rules : We will follow BIBA rules. This is not a clock tournament, but Clocks may be assigned at will by the TD, especially if matches fall behind schedule.

Poker:

Play Starts on Sat. at 9pm (but it's best to check / notify Mark Dixon on the day)

bullet£50 Freeze out. Poker Registration is an extra £5 to cover Guard on Duty / Barman Terry / Venue (we have negotiated staying open until 3am.)
bulletStarting stack = 6000 in chips.  20 minute blinds starting from 25 / 50 (people can play cheaper sit n goes on the side, or cash games – Cecilia is bringing her chips as well which are a different design)
bulletColours: white = 25, blue = 100, red = 500, black = 1000, purple = 5000
bulletBlinds go: 25 / 50 - 50 / 100 - 100 / 200 - 150 / 300 – then first 10 min break (1hr 20 min gone)
bulletChipping up occurs with white chips (25) - 200 / 400 - 300 / 600 - 500 / 1000 - 700 / 1500 – second 10 min break (2hr 40 min gone) –
bulletChipping up occurs with blue chips (100) - 1000 / 2000  - 1500 / 3000 - 2000 / 4000 - 3000 / 6000 - 5000 / 10,000 Etc.

Break before final table (8 players) - Number of places will be determined at event according to number of entrants.  Payout structure will be also, following an exponential-like fit.

Food:

Drinks, both alcoholic and non available at the Venue Bar at very reasonable prices

There will be some emergency food on Saturday for hungry players

There will be a cold spread / Sandwiches available on Sunday

Parties of Players are advised to use Clifton and surrounding area for Pubs and Restaurants on Saturday
